Achieving the perfect bikini wax entails a little more than just showing up to your waxing appointment. In this article, the professionals here at Enso Wax hope to share with you the most important tips and tricks of the trade so that you can leave your waxing appointment feeling confident in your hair-free results.
What to do before waxing to get the best results
The steps you choose to take prior to your waxing appointment can truly play a significant role in determining the results of removing the pubic hair around your bikini line. Here are several key considerations:
Grow out your hair
While this may seem contradictory at first, the reality of waxing is that longer hair (compared to shorter regrowth) makes the process more successful. When new growth is too short, the wax strips may not adhere as well as they should, leaving tiny hairs behind instead of smooth, bare skin. To avoid this, try to ensure that the hair is at least a quarter of an inch long.
Keep skin clean and hydrated
Clear, hydrated skin is always the skincare goal, right? Prior to your waxing appointment, try to extend that skincare TLC to your bikini area. For both a bikini and Brazilian wax appointments, you’re going to want to try and ensure your skin is clean and sufficiently moisturized for best results.
Exfoliate
When dead and dry skin are present, it makes the bonding process between wax and body hair more precarious. Between 24 and 48 hours prior to your appointment, use a gentle exfoliant to remove any potential unwanted buildup, creating the perfect canvas for your hard or soft wax to work its magic.
How to maximize your bikini wax results
Now that we’ve gone over what you can do prior to visiting your waxing specialist, let’s go over some post-wax tips to keep the appearance of bumps and irritation to a minimum:
Let your hair growth cycle sync up
Timing is going to be key when attempting to sync up your hair growth cycles. It is critical to plan out your first few waxing sessions with your wax specialist as longer-lasting, seamless results are going to be achieved through consistent appointments and time. When your hair growth cycle finally syncs and each follicle produces a new strand of hair around the same time, longer lasting results will come naturally.
Keep your skin hydrated
Similarly to preparing for your wax, following your appointment you’re still going to want to ensure that the skin remains hydrated and free of irritants. Remember: hydrated skin is happy skin! Use a scent-free lotion when possible.
Don’t use harsh products
Another aftercare pro-tip is to avoid harsh, irritating, or exfoliating products in the days following your wax. It is best to be protective of your skin and avoid products that could disrupt the health of your freshly waxed area as it can often result in redness, discomfort, and the development of bumps and ingrown hairs.
Stay consistent with your waxing
As we have mentioned briefly above, keeping a regular waxing routine can make a substantial difference in the quality of your results. Consistency ensures your growth cycles remain synched and provide longer lasting results with smoother skin.
Exfoliate between waxes
While we do not recommend waxing within the two to three days following your wax, we do strongly recommend exfoliating in between your wax appointments. Choosing to exfoliate means that you get the best possible results each time.
How long will a bikini wax last?
Bikini waxing results will vary for different individuals. For some, it can be a month or two between waxing sessions while for others, it can be a couple of months. Here are several factors that can influence how long your bikini wax will last:
Waxing consistency
Choosing to be consistent, as we mentioned earlier, helps you bank on the full potential of your results. Inconsistency — even once — can diminish the length of time you have with hair-free skin.
Hair growth
Each person has their own hair growth cycles, keep that in mind when planning out your sessions. On average, each wax should last around three to four weeks.
Hair type and thickness
Did you know that your hair type can influence how long your waxing lasts? Those with fine, straight hair can see longer periods of hair-free skin. Those with coarse, curly hair can often see signs of regrowth appear more rapidly following a wax.
Hormones and genetics
In addition to standard genetics, hormones and stress play key factors in determining how long new growth can take to develop. For those experiencing a pregnancy, high stress environments, or genetic hormonal imbalances, your growth cycles may be different.
