Chances are, if you’ve never experienced a Brazilian wax service firsthand, you may have a few unanswered questions surrounding the process and what your session experience may be like. We get it! Thankfully, you’ve landed in the right spot. Enso has years of experience guiding first-time waxes with proper preparation and aftercare!

Let’s go over how to best prepare for your bikini or Brazilian wax appointment, as well as some frequently asked questions that you may have about the pubic hair waxing process.

The best Brazilian wax etiquette practices

To begin, let’s take some time to go over the best practices and proper etiquette when showing up to your appointment. Instead of being self conscious, try and reference some of the below listed recommendations for the best possible outcome.

Show up to your appointment clean

Whether you’re interested in receiving a full body wax or a simple bikini touch up, always be sure to come to your appointment clean. Not only are bodily fluids potentially hazardous to your wax technician, it should be common sense to come to your wax session free of dirt, body oils, and sweat.

Lastly, clean skin helps ensure an effective wax job. Both hard wax and soft wax may have problems binding to the individual strands of body hair if they are coated in a mixture of dirt, oil, and sweat.

Do not consume any alcohol before your Brazilian wax

Sure, brunch and mimosas with some friends or a drink or two may sound nice to prepare you for your hair removal appointment, however, drinking can significantly affect how your body experiences pain. Instead of increasing your pain tolerance, drinking actually thins out the blood and results in sensitive skin more prone to irritation.

Be respectful towards your wax expert

Waxing your more intimate areas can be an uncomfortable process your first two or three times, it's perfectly normal to feel a little apprehensive. Your esthetician may be used to working with many different clients, but that doesn’t mean you are! Thankfully, they’ll make you feel at ease and welcome while they work.

Ask any questions you may have for your esthetician

Need some questions answered? There’s no shame in making sure you feel comfortable with everything that is going on. If you’re not sure about the waxing process, or feel like you need to discuss certain topics with your wax technician before starting, be sure to do that!

Common concerns about Brazilian waxing

Now that you’re prepared, let’s go over some common questions or concerns we’ve found clients had prior to arriving at their waxing session.

What position will you be in for a Brazilian wax

In order to effectively access all the areas in which your pubic hair grows, your technician will need you completely naked from the waist down. Once your clothes have been placed to the side, you will be laid on a table, knees bent in what’s known as the butterfly position.

This angle grants access to not only your pubic bone, but also inside the butt between the butt cheeks. For full brazilian waxing, all hair surrounding the pubic area is removed, including what is known as the butt strip.

Is your hair too long to wax?

When it comes to hair length, there is such a thing as hair that is too long or too short. Longer hair can be troublesome as the wax may not bind close enough to the area where the hair surfaces from beneath the skin. This failure to fully grip the strand of hair can result in a number of strands of hair growth to snap without being removed from the root of the hair follicle.

Can you get waxed during your period?

With the use of a menstrual cup or a tampon, the accessibility of waxing is extended to when clients are on their period. Simply ensure that the area is thoroughly cleansed prior to your appointment and you’re good to go!

Do you have to be completely naked for Brazilian wax?

Being completely naked during your basic brazilian wax appointment should not be required by your esthetician. Simply making sure your lower half is accessible and free of clothing that may hinder your wax technician is all that should be needed.
