When it comes to waxing, it doesn't matter where you are in your career – getting the perfect wax temperature for both hard wax and soft wax is integral to the success of your business. Not only should you consider the health and wellness of your clients, but also the quality of your services.

With a little practice and the right guidance, you should be on your way to nailing that perfect wax temperature, every time!

Why is an even wax temperature important?

When you try to master the perfect wax temperature, it’s more than just being a perfectionist. Think about it: the success of your waxing experience will be heavily dependent upon the consistency of the wax you’re using. Why? Two reasons: consistency and the wellbeing of your clients.

Get consistent results

We’ve all heard the saying “consistency is key”, and that’s because it is! When you perform a service, your clients are going to expect consistent, trustworthy results. If the quality and effectiveness of your service changes with each appointment, you’re less likely to maintain repeat customers.

Protect clients from side effects

On the other side of things is the safety of your clients. Unintentionally heating the wax at too high of a temperature can result in injury, known as skin lifting. The last thing you want as a professional is to not only injure your credibility, but also injure your clients.

6 steps to get the perfect wax temperature

Thankfully, the process of obtaining the perfect wax temperature and texture can be narrowed down into a simplified process. Below we’ve outlined a six-step process that ensures you get a consistency that gets optimal results, every time!

Know the target temperature for the type of wax you’re using

The most straightforward suggestion is going to be to familiarize yourself with the varying wax temperatures needed for the type of wax you’re planning on using. Both hard wax and soft wax have different temperature requirements and melting points for being used effectively.

Some hard waxes melt as low as 104°F, while others don’t melt until 194°F! On average, soft waxes melt at lower temperatures compared to hard wax, with some starting to melt around 99°F. Each brand has different formulations, resulting in different melting temperatures.

Put your wax warmer on high for the first few minutes

There’s no need to spend hours trying to properly melt your wax. Instead, consider turning your wax warmer to its highest setting to create a thorough and even melt for your wax. Think of it like preparing your bath. It’s easier to begin with very hot water and then adjust if needed over simply sitting in front of your hub and changing the water temperature every few seconds to achieve the ideal temperature.

Your goal should be an even consistency

While aiming for a certain temperature can certainly make the process simpler to understand, it’s not the key to obtaining the perfect wax. The truth is that although temperature is important, the consistency of your wax is going to be the determining factor on whether or not your wax will be effective on new hair growth. Avoid a liquid or runny consistency and aim for an even, syrupy or honey-like consistency for best results.

Adjust temperature based on the body area you’re waxing

Remember: the temperature of your wax is going to depend on the skin of your client and the area you’re waxing. Even if you think you’ve found the perfect temperature zone, make sure to keep these variables in mind.

As always, be aware of different skin types. Those with sensitive skin, or when waxing sensitive areas, make sure to use a lower level heat. Alternatively, those with coarse hair can benefit from using wax that’s been melted at a higher temperature.

Keep an eye on your temperature throughout the waxing session

Although our clients deserve our undivided attention, it’s crucial to keep an eye on your wax warmer, too! Periodically, throughout your wax session, ensure that you monitor your wax’s current temperature. The last thing you want is to accidentally overheat or underheat your wax during your time with your client.

Stirring your wax warmer is a thing of the past with enso
